Solution-Oriented Therapy is one of the most popular of the new short-term therapies, it has become popular so quickly because of its accessibility and simplicity. It focuses on the positive things in the lives of people with problems, rather than on their pathology. This form of therapy avoids jargon and diagnostic labelling and favours finding simple solutions even to complex problems. Most people actually have the solutions to their problems, but it is as if they are behind a locked door and don't have the key.
Youth Development Australia will hold a conference on August 5th on the topic 'Early Intervention and Socially excluded Young People'. Anyone working with disadvantaged and marginalised young people should attend, as well as those working across homelessness, substance use, employment, education, mental health, youth justice and child protection/leaving care
With this year’s event to come, the event will be responsible for raising over $1 million dollars for United Way Geelong Region. That’s $1 million dollars towards making a real difference in the Geelong community with United Way supporting crucial issues like homelessness, poverty and social isolation. Last year was a huge effort, raising over $100,000 and attracting over 2,000 spectators and entrants.

The IHSS/SGP Action Group is arranging a forum on ‘Refugee young people: education and employment’ on Friday, 2nd July 2010. Focus of the session will be on a range of pathways suitable for young people who may have had fractured experiences of schooling and/or can benefit from programs that offer additional personal support.

The Crunch provides access to training, mentoring, networks and support, along with the opportunity to pitch for a share of the one million dollar Crunch Investment Fund.
Fresh Food Rescue is supporting food relief organisations putting food on the tables of those in need. In 2010, a total of $2 million is available to help expand fresh food operations, so more people can access healthy, nutritious food. As such, grants will be available for infrastructure needs like refrigerators, storage and equipment.
C.B. Nyko from Barwon Safe Parties spoke about the project which is a community level initiative of the federal governments national binge drinking strategy.The workshops on offer are targeted at parents of 11-18 year olds. The aim is to get parents to start conversations with their children about drinking and to improve their knowledge and skills to reduce the risks associated with parties and binge drinking. Schools who are planning party safe activities with students are encouraged to contact C.B. at the City of Greater Geelong or Leigh at BATForce to discuss booking a session which should add value to their program by adopting the whole of community approach to this topic.

The TGM Barwon Banks Fun Run is on again and it is now in its 26th year.
Held on the beautiful Barwon River, we are anticipating 1,200 runners and walkers to take part.
In the next few months Barwon CASA, in conjunction with the AFVP will be offering an infant/mother/carer Family Violence treatment group in the Barwon Region. Barwon CASA will present information about this group including, why it is regarded as a valuable addition to the range of services we offer. Information about registering for this group will be available on the 10th of March.
All you need to do is:
• Fill out and lodge an expression
of interest form.
• Gather a small group of young
people together.
• Support the young people to learn
about hepatitis C and take photos.
• Send the cameras back to Hepatitis C Victoria
