With this year’s event to come, the event will be responsible for raising over $1 million dollars for United Way Geelong Region. That’s $1 million dollars towards making a real difference in the Geelong community with United Way supporting crucial issues like homelessness, poverty and social isolation. Last year was a huge effort, raising over $100,000 and attracting over 2,000 spectators and entrants.

The statewide search has begun for individuals, businesses, and community groups that are making a difference in their local regional or rural Victoria through their hard work, dedication, innovation and community contribution. We invite you to nominate someone you know (or your group) that deserves recognition for their commitment and community contribution. A nomination form and criteria are attached for your convenience. The Awards highlight, acknowledge and reward the valuable contribution that businesses, individuals and community groups are making towards building a stronger and better local community to live in.

The Big Issue is a not-for profit organisation that publishes a magazine sold by marginalized or disadvantaged people known as ‘vendors’. Authorised vendors purchase the magazine for $2.50 and sell it for $5.00, making a clear 100 % profit. Selling the magazine also boosts vendors’ self-esteem and independence. It has a positive effect on their lives and is reflected in The Big Issue motto: “helping people help themselves”. For purchasers of the magazine it really is a good read for a good deed.

Some Victoria Legal Aid publications that have been recently updated. They might be suitable for handing out to your clients and members of your local community. All publications are free.
