New survey for young people under 25 about their experiences of fines

Over the last few years the Victorian Government has increased the number of offences dealt with by fines. Many of these offences are behavioural offences, such a swearing or drinking in public. We all know fines are expensive - over $1000 fine for carrying a knife, over $276 for being drunk in public or disorderly conduct, and over $700 fine for having a spray can on public transport. We want to hear from young people about how fines are impacting on their lives. The survey asks about the types of fines they are receiving, the type of officer giving out the fines, the number of fines, and how they are dealing with the fines and how the fines are affecting them. The link to the survey is below . Feel free to promote the survey through your networks. The survey will be run from 12 Nov – 5 Dec and if participants can provide a contact email or number then they can go into the draw to win a JB Hi Fi voucher worth $100! Our guestimate is that it will take about 7- 10 minutes. We have attached a poster promoting the survey that you may want to put up somewhere at your service (feel free to adapt) We also attach a pdf of the survey for any workers in your agency that have capacity to either help some young people complete a hard copy of the survey or could leave some hard copy surveys in reception, together with a box for completed surveys. If completed surveys could please be sent to Youthlaw, 19 King Street, Melbourne 3000 (by December 3rd) we will enter the survey results onto survey monkey. If you would to know more about this survey then please feel free to contact me at Youthlaw on or email us.
