The Kyokushin Karate Association have partnered with Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College to deliver C4 Girls. The program focuses on students learning the basic techniques of Kyokushin Karate, as well as learning the key philosophies of commitment, concentration, control and courage.
C4 Girls promotes self-discipline, respect, health and fitness and building positive social relationships.
WE ROCK
Norlane High School have partnered with Urban Seed, Camp Wilkin, and Parks Victoria to target school attendance and early school leaving amongst a group of selected students. The program aims to develop personal skills, build self-esteem and improve social relationships with peers and school staff. The program will also offer students an opportunity to gain hands-on skills, specifically in the area of bicycle maintenance. Students will also be encouraged to actively participate in community activities and make a contribution back to their local community.
Seeds of Success
Corio South Primary School are working together with their partner organisation, Creative Endeavours to deliver an art and music therapy program to a select group of students. Students work with a number of different art forms to address a range of complex personal needs. The music element focuses on strengthening team work, co-operation, and social skills.
Leaping into Secondary
Leaping into Secondary is a widespread program that aims to improve confidence and reduce anxiety for primary school students making the transition to secondary school. Four primary schools and two secondary schools are working together to plan and implement the program. Working together will encourage a more collaborative approach to addressing the issue of transition. Students will participate in a range of planned activities which will aim to build social connections and familiarise primary school students with a secondary school environment.
Girls in Motion
Lara Secondary College have partnered with the local mechanic to engage a group of female VCAL students in a unique opportunity to learn about basic automotive skills, road safety, and small business management. The girls have had an opportunity to learn and practice mechanical skills and gain knowledge of the automotive industry.
To Join and Come Together
Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative have joined with SCOPE Victoria to run the Young Ambassador program with a group of young people. The SCOPE Young Ambassador program aims to develop respect, understanding and acceptance of others, raise awareness and understanding of disability and enhance communication and leadership skills.
All Together Now
Norlane West Primary School, Creative Endeavours, and the Corio Leisuretime Centre have joined together to deliver the All Together Now program. The program has a three-pronged approach;
1. Creative endeavours will work together with a group of selected students to deliver an art and music therapy program
2. Corio Leisuretime Centre will offer a group of selected students an opportunity to participate in a range of different sporting activities
3. Parents will be encouraged to attend and participate in a range of information sessions concentrating on how parents can best support their children to make a successful transition into secondary school
Marine Mates
Marine Mates aims to build social connections young people from culturally diverse backgrounds. Students from Bellarine Secondary College and North Geelong Secondary College will participate in a range of marine themed activities. The activities will both encourage students to build social skills and gain knowledge about the local marine environment.
STAR Connections
Newcomb Secondary College have partnered with St. Laurence Community Services STAR program to deliver STAR Connections. The program will build understanding of disability and difference and encourage positive relationships between young people. Young people from Newcomb Secondary College will be partnered with young people from St. Laurence and through a range of planned activities they will learn the fundamental techniques required for canoeing.
